The trial has begun for the mother in Samsun's İlkadım district who is accused of killing her baby after giving birth, allegedly from an extramarital relationship. The detained defendant H.C. stated in her defense, "I hid the baby in a box in the bathroom for 5 days. Then I put it in a bag and threw it into a garbage container."
The trial of the defendant, who is accused of killing her baby after giving birth at home from an extramarital affair in the İlkadım district of Samsun, has begun.
At the hearing at Samsun 5th High Criminal Court, the detained defendant H.C. (42), who is being tried with a request for life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing," and the lawyers of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, who intervened in the case, attended. Defendant H.C. stated in her defense that M.D., with whom she had a romantic relationship, was religiously married to someone else and promised her, "We will get married."
GOT PREGNANT TWICE BY THE SAME PERSON
Stating that she became pregnant after a while and that M.D. asked her to abort the baby, H.C. said, "We aborted the baby at a private hospital because I didn't want my family to hear about it. Our relationship continued, and I got pregnant again. When I realized this, I learned that the legal period for abortion had passed. I decided to bring the baby into the world. When M.D. said he and his religiously married wife would take care of the baby, I didn't accept it. I gave birth to the baby in the living room of the house and cut the umbilical cord myself."
"I KEPT THE BABY IN A BOX IN THE BATHROOM FOR 5 DAYS, THEN THREW IT IN THE TRASH"
Claiming that the baby was not alive at birth, H.C. noted the following:
"I wrapped it in a sheet and put it inside a cleaning box in the bathroom. The day after the birth, when I felt bad, we went to the hospital. I told the nurse everything, but she didn't care. I kept the baby in the box in the bathroom for 5 days. Then I put it in a bag and threw it in the garbage container. 3 days later, I fell ill again and we went to the hospital again. I explained the situation there too. The doctor and staff called the police. My statement was taken while I was receiving medication treatment. I don't remember what I said. Then I was arrested because of the incident. I do not accept my initial statements. I never said, 'The child was born alive.' It was born dead. I do not accept the charges."
THE CASE WAS POSTPONED
The court board decided to continue the defendant's detention and postponed the hearing to complete the deficiencies.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
On October 16, 2025, in the İlkadım district, H.C., who gave birth at home, applied to the hospital when she fell ill, and upon her declaration that she had given birth at home, her statement was taken by police teams. After H.C. said she threw the deceased baby in the garbage container, the police conducted searches in containers and garbage stations for 4 days, but the baby could not be found. H.C., who was taken into custody after her treatment, was arrested.
