According to TÜİK data, Turkey constitutes 1% of the world population with 86 million 92 thousand 168 people. In the ranking of the most populous countries in the world, India tops the list, while Turkey ranked 18th. Turkey's child and youth population ratio remained below the world average.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced World Population Day data. According to this, based on United Nations population estimates, the world population for mid-2025 is estimated to be 8,231,613,070 people. According to these estimates, the country with the largest population is India with 1,463,865,525 people, followed by China with 1,416,096,094 people, and the United States with 347,275,808 people. These three countries constitute 39.2% of the total world population. Turkey ranks 18th among 194 countries with a population of 86,092,168 people, comprising 1% of the total world population.

When examining the proportion of the child population aged 0-17 within total populations of countries according to United Nations world population estimates, the country with the highest child population ratio in 2025 is the Central African Republic with 56.2%. This country is followed by Niger with 53.3% and Somalia with 53.0%. The country with the lowest child population ratio is South Korea with 12.9%, followed by Japan with 14.0% and Singapore with 14.4%.

TURKEY REMAINED BELOW THE AVERAGE IN YOUTH POPULATION

The world average youth population ratio was 15.6% in 2025. It was observed that Turkey's youth population ratio of 14.8% was below the world youth population average.

When examining the proportion of the elderly population aged 65 and over within total populations of countries according to United Nations world population estimates, the country with the highest elderly population ratio in 2025 is Monaco with 36.0%. This country is followed by Japan with 30.0% and Italy with 25.1%. The country with the lowest elderly population ratio is Qatar with 1.7%, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 1.8% and Zambia with 2.0%.

The world average elderly population ratio was 10.4% in 2025. It was observed that Turkey's elderly population ratio of 11.1% is slightly above the world elderly population average.

This country is followed by Somalia with 5.91 children and the Democratic Republic of the Congo with 5.90 children. The country with the lowest total fertility rate is South Korea with 0.75 children, followed by Singapore with 0.96 children and Ukraine with 1.00 children.

The world average total fertility rate was 2.24 children in 2025. It was observed that Turkey's total fertility rate of 1.42 children remained below the world average.

It was observed that Turkey's elderly population ratio of 11.1% is lower than the elderly population ratios of the 27 EU member countries.

The EU country with the highest total fertility rate is Bulgaria with 1.74 children.
