In the investigation into the death of university student Rojin Kabaiş (21), whose lifeless body was found 18 days after she went missing in Van in 2024, DNA samples have been taken from 413 people to date, while her father Nizamettin Kabaiş stated that new lawyers have begun re-examining the case file. Kabaiş, noting that no progress has been made in the case so far, said, "We went to Van with our new lawyer Abdurrahman Karabulut. We met with the prosecutor's office. The lawyer is reviewing the footage. He will reconsider all examinations that were not conducted before."

Rojin Kabaiş, a first-year student in the Child Development Department of the Faculty of Education at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, went missing after leaving her dormitory on September 27, 2024. Eighteen days later, on October 15, her lifeless body was found on the shore of Mollakasım District on the coast of Lake Van. In the report submitted to the case file by the Forensic Medicine Institute's Biological Specialization Department on October 10, 2025, it was stated that DNA belonging to two different men was detected on Kabaiş's chest and inner vaginal area. A comprehensive DNA screening was conducted on individuals who may have had contact with the body during its transfer from the scene to the Morgue Specialization Department of the Van Group Directorate of the Forensic Medicine Institute. DNA samples have been taken from 413 people to date, including university and dormitory security personnel.

'FOOTAGE OF ROJIN FROM THE LAST 3 DAYS BEING EXAMINED'

Rojin's father, Nizamettin Kabaiş, made statements to DHA regarding the latest situation in the case file. Kabaiş stated that they went to Van with their new lawyer Abdurrahman Karabulut some time ago and said the following:

"We had a meeting with the prosecutor's office. We obtained footage of which cameras Rojin was caught on and where she went within a 3-day period. The lawyer is reviewing the footage. He said he will focus on whatever is necessary. A white car is mentioned. He will focus on that issue. He will reconsider all examinations that were not conducted before. There is a 15-minute time gap when Rojin moves from one security camera to another. That part has been erased. It is clearly obvious that there is a cover-up in this incident. Also, there is a 360-degree rotating camera at the spot where Rojin left her phone. It was said that camera was broken at that time. No one brought this up. Later, I took a video with my own phone and saw the camera rotating. If the footage from that security camera I mentioned exists, this incident would be solved in one go."

"WE MET WITH SELAHATTIN DEMIRTAŞ"

Kabaiş stated that his meeting with Selahattin Demirtaş took place at Demirtaş's request, saying, "He had previously communicated that he wanted to meet with us. Due to our busy schedule, he didn't want to tire us out. We were pleased and happy to meet with him. His mood and health were quite good. He boosted the morale of both us and himself. Our meeting lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes. He said they are closely following the case file. He stated that Rojin's case is not a suicide but a murder case. He said this case will be solved and will not remain in the dark. He also mentioned that our Minister of Justice is conducting the efforts well and is focusing on the case. I said to them, 'May God be pleased with you, thank you.'"

'SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTS ARE OCCURRING'

Abdurrahman Karabulut, the Kabaiş family's lawyer registered with the Konya Bar Association, stated in a written statement, "The prosecutor's office said it will fulfill all requests within the legal framework. Both the Minister of Justice and the investigation prosecutor's office are continuing their work with a very serious and determined stance. It would not be appropriate for us to share the evidence collected or to be collected with the public for the sake of the investigation's integrity. Significant developments are occurring. Our belief that the murderer or murderers will be caught is complete. We will make the necessary statements to the public in the coming days."
