The civil war in Yemen, ongoing since 2014, has reignited. The Yemeni army announced that it has recaptured the strategic Tebbe al-Hazzan position from the Houthis in the Jabal Habashi district west of Taiz, that fighting has intensified on the Maqbana and al-Kadha fronts, and that reinforcements have been sent to the area. Government forces also reported shooting down a Houthi drone.
In a statement by the Taiz Military Command affiliated with the Yemeni army, it was stated that the Yemeni Armed Forces regained control of the strategic position called Tebbe el-Hazzan in the Cebel Habşi district west of Taiz.
REGION OF STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE TAKEN FROM HOUTHIS
The statement noted that clashes between army forces and Houthis intensified on the Makbene and El-Kedha fronts west of Taiz, and the position was recaptured as military reinforcement units arrived in the region.
Tebbe el-Hazzan is located on a strategic mountainous position overlooking many areas west of Taiz.
MANY DEAD AND WOUNDED
Since Thursday morning, violent clashes have been taking place between the Yemeni army and Houthis on various fronts in the provinces of Taiz and Hudeyde in western Yemen. It was reported that there were dead and wounded on both sides in the clashes.
Meanwhile, government-affiliated forces announced that a Houthi unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was shot down in the skies over the El-Berah region west of Taiz. While the Yemeni army gave no further details on the matter, no statement has yet been made by the Houthis.
FIERCEST CLASHES SINCE 2022
Since September 2014, clashes continue in various parts of the country between the Houthis, who have held control in some regions, particularly the capital Sana, and forces loyal to the internationally recognized legitimate government.
While the recent clashes are among the most severe waves of conflict seen in the region since the ceasefire process under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) signed in 2022, international bodies are warning that Yemen could be dragged back into a spiral of large-scale conflict.
