A male suspect entered a 4-story building in Istanbul's Sultangazi district dressed in women's clothing and stole 4 bracelets, 2 grams of gold, and cash from an empty apartment on the second floor. Noticed to be a man while leaving the building, the suspect began to flee as locals chased him. The chase was captured on security cameras, and the suspect was later caught and taken into custody by police teams.
A male suspect, who allegedly entered an apartment building in Sultangazi disguised as a woman, stole gold and money while no one was at home. The suspect, noticed after leaving the building, caused tense moments in the neighborhood as he fled.
ENTERED THE BUILDING WEARING WOMEN'S CLOTHES
The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 25, at around 19:00, at the 4-story building on C1 Street in the Esentepe neighborhood.
According to allegations, the male suspect wearing blue women's clothing entered the building and went up to the second floor. The suspect, who stayed in the building for about half an hour, entered an apartment where no one was present.
It was reported that the suspect took 4 bracelets, 2 grams of gold, and cash money from the home.
NOTICED WHILE LEAVING THE BUILDING
Those who heard the noises the suspect made in the building became suspicious. When it was realized that the person trying to leave the building was a man, people nearby started chasing him.
During the chase, which was joined by residents, the suspect was followed for a while. The moments when the suspect, fleeing in women's clothing, were captured on security cameras.
Following the report, police and crime scene investigation teams were dispatched to the area. As a result of the operations, the suspect was caught by the police and taken into custody.
"WAITED HALF AN HOUR, TOOK THE GOLDS, AND LEFT"
Sıraç Ali Şengül, one of the residents, stated that the incident happened during after-work hours and explained that the suspect entered the building after putting on the clothes.
Şengül said, "He went up to the second floor. He waited there for half an hour, took the golds, and left. They took 4 bracelets, and as I heard, 2 grams of gold and money."
Şengül also stated that after the suspect was noticed, he and his brother and a woman chased him, and later other people in the neighborhood joined the chase.
SUSPECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
Sedat Şentürk, another resident, said that initially, he thought the commotion outside was children playing. Şentürk, who stated that he went to the balcony after hearing shouts of "There's a thief," said he saw the suspect fleeing.
Şentürk, stating that he later checked his own home's security camera, used the words, "I saw a man disguised as a woman fleeing."
According to Şentürk, the homeowner realized that his golds and money had been stolen when he checked his apartment.
Following the report, police and crime scene investigation teams conducted work at the building. As a result of the efforts to catch the suspect, he was taken into custody.
