At the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya, a fire occurred that claimed the lives of 78 people. Families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy also attended the meeting of the commission established by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) to investigate the causes of the incident.
"MOM, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH"
A mother who attended the meeting played a voice recording sent by her son just minutes before the fire for the commission. In the recording, the little boy could be heard saying, "Mom, I love you so much," while the mother expressed, "My child knew he was going to die. As a mother, I had to say this: I wish he hadn't woken up, I wish he hadn't been scared," which led to emotional moments in the hall.
"SOMEONE CAME TO ME AND SAID 'DON'T CRY, THE GOVERNOR IS SAD'"
The mother of 13-year-old Doruk, who lost his life, stated that they received no guidance or support during the incident, saying, "We were in the middle of everything, but we didn't know what was happening. Someone came to me and said, 'Don't cry, the governor is sad.' I had lost my child, and even my tears were considered a disturbance," expressing her frustration.
THE COMMISSION WAS OVERWHELMED WITH TEARS
The mother said, "I lost the children I dedicated my life to. At that moment, I realized that we were really alone there." During the mother's emotional speech, the commission members could not hold back their tears, and images of an official distributing tissues were captured.
