SEARCH STARTED BY LIFE JACKET
The crew of the cruise ship named Sapphire Princess spotted an orange object in the sea around 6:00 PM on April 21. Upon realizing it was a life jacket, the ship changed course and headed to the incident site. In the search that began, the lifeless body of a man was first recovered from the water.
The footage shows the person, wearing a purple top and black shorts, being taken onto a lifeboat, covered, and transported to the ship. After an initial examination by medical teams, the body was taken to the lower section of the ship.
5 LIFELESS BODIES FOUND IN 3 HOURS
According to a report in The Mirror, after a second life jacket was spotted at 7:47 PM, the search was expanded. Throughout the operation lasting about 3 hours, teams recovered the lifeless bodies of a total of 5 people. The ship's captain announced that the search activities had been completed.
"I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE"
A passenger on the ship described the events, saying, "It was very sad to watch. The crew maintained calm, but everyone was in shock. I've never seen anything like this in my life."
SUSPICION OF MIGRANTS
It is believed that the bodies recovered from the sea may be irregular migrants. It was learned that at the time of the incident, the ship was between Spain and North Africa, and it docked at the port of Cartagena on April 22.
