In the incident that took place in the Reyhanlı district of Hatay, moments when three minors fired a gun in an empty lot were captured on security camera. It was seen that the suspects fled on a motorcycle after citizens reacted.
THEY FIRED GUN BEHIND THE HIGH SCHOOL
The incident occurred on April 19 in an empty lot behind Sultan Alparslan Anatolian High School in Yeşilova Neighborhood. Three minors who arrived at the area on a motorcycle fired a gun consecutively after a while.
CITIZENS REACTED, THEY FLED
Neighborhood residents who heard the gunshots came out of their homes and reacted to the situation. Meanwhile, the minors were seen quickly leaving the area on their motorcycle.
SHEEP FLOCK FLED IN PANIC
The security camera footage shows one of the minors firing a gun repeatedly after pulling it from his waist, a sheep flock panicking and fleeing due to the gunshots, and a citizen trying to intervene by shouting at the minors.
“THEY KEEP COMING AND FIRING”
Hasan Yapıcı, a resident of the area, stated that the minors occasionally come to the same location and fire guns, and called on authorities. Yapıcı requested that law enforcement conduct more frequent patrols in the area.
“THREE MINORS AGED 15-16 ARE TESTING GUNS”
Hasan Yapıcı, stating that three minors come to the empty lot and fire randomly, said, “Last week on Sunday, three minors aged 15 to 16, with a gun in hand, got on a motorcycle one after another and came down here. The child with the gun is trying to fire randomly at the ground or testing the gun. Such attempts happen frequently in this area. They say they come here to test their guns or shoot, but there are young people and children playing on the streets here. There are school students here. Especially after the recent armed attack on a school in Kahramanmaraş, it really makes us uneasy. Of course, it worries us. And how is it that law enforcement doesn't see these individuals, and they can come here and fire guns? They can act so freely. Naturally, our children play on the streets or attend school. We have a request from our state: we implore the relevant authorities of our state to take control of this situation and conduct inspections.”
“WE HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH, WE DON'T WANT A REPEAT”
Emphasizing that lives were lost in Kahramanmaraş and the need for precautions to prevent similar incidents, Yapıcı said, “This happens constantly in this area. Sometimes people on drugs or alcohol come here. Regardless of day or night, they engage in inappropriate behavior at inappropriate times. We are disturbed by this. We want law enforcement to control this and monitor it more strictly. There is a school right across from us. There are students in the school. We have suffered enough in Kahramanmaraş. We don't want a repeat. If everyone properly educates their children, a 15-year-old has no business with a gun, but if we don't educate our children properly, they may turn to guns, alcohol, and drugs. Of course, we request that the administration and supervision in this area be increased and they be more assertive.”
