The 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri at 12:49 frightened the people of Istanbul. While some were caught at their workplaces, others were at home, and the events during the earthquake were captured by security cameras and mobile phone cameras.
"IT STRUCK FROM THE GROUND"
Women getting their hair dyed at a hair salon in Üsküdar ran outside, leaving the process unfinished. A person sleeping at a workplace in Beylikdüzü jumped up and ran outside. A woman in a café shouted "It struck from the ground" as soon as she felt the earthquake.
"GET OUT, AN EARTHQUAKE IS HAPPENING"
In another workplace, those inside shouted "Get out, get out, an earthquake is happening" and fled the premises. A supermarket's security camera recorded the products falling to the ground during the earthquake moment by moment. Customers in a barbershop also ran away during the earthquake. Citizens who exited the supermarkets and workplaces they were in experienced panic. In footage recorded at a stationery store during the earthquake, products fell off the shelves. A person caught in the garden during the earthquake tried to jump over the iron railings after running around the garden with their dog.
REACTIONS OF A DOG AND A BUDGERIGAR DURING THE EARTHQUAKE
In footage recorded at a barbershop, moments are seen when a dog inside ran outside with the workers. In another clip, a budgerigar in a house was seen flying around the room during the earthquake, as captured by the security camera. The moments when the owner fled while the budgerigar continued to fly were also reflected in the security camera. The swaying of a chandelier and the movement of a motorcycle inside a workplace during the earthquake were also recorded by the security camera. Moments when customers and staff were seen running outside from a restaurant during the earthquake were also captured by security cameras.
