Turkey's population statistics have been announced. Accordingly, the country's population increased by 292,567 compared to the previous year, reaching 85,664,944 in 2024. The most populous city was identified as Istanbul, with a population of over 15.7 million. The least populated district was Yalıhüyük in Konya, while records show that only one person lives in five villages in Turkey.
While 6.6% of the population in Turkey resides in towns and villages, it has been determined that only one registered person lives in 5 villages. According to the compilation of data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the country's population increased by 292,567 people in 2024 compared to the previous year, reaching 85 million 664 thousand 944 people.
ONLY 6.6% OF THE POPULATION LIVES IN TOWNS AND VILLAGES
The number of people residing in provincial and district centers was recorded as 80 million 7 thousand 258. The proportion of those living in provincial and district centers within the total population rose to 93.4%, while the proportion of those living in towns and villages outside the 30 metropolitan cities decreased from 7% to 6.6%. Last year, the number of people living in towns or villages was determined to be 5 million 657 thousand 686, showing a decrease of approximately 5.3% compared to the previous year.
10 OR FEWER PEOPLE LIVE IN 57 VILLAGES
Across Turkey, the number of villages with 10 or fewer residents was identified as 57, while the number of villages with a population of 1000 or more was recorded as 480. Taşpınar, located in the central district of Adıyaman, drew attention as the most populous village in Turkey with a population of 7,002. It was followed by İpekli in the central district of Adıyaman with 6,144 people, Dereobası in the central district of Osmaniye with 5,881 people, Mende in the central district of Uşak with 5,766 people, and Bostanbükü in the Safranbolu district of Karabük with 5,722 people.
LIVING ALONE IN 5 VILLAGES
TÜİK data revealed that only one registered person lives in 5 villages across the country. These villages are Ağaçyurdu in the Güçlükonak district of Şırnak, Çattepe in the Kurtalan district of Siirt, Tarlabaşı in the Aralık district of Iğdır, Kayalıbağ in the central district of Bitlis, and Çomakköy in the Kiğı district of Bingöl.
The Maltepe village in the Adaklı district of Bingöl has a population of two, and the Kalfalar village in the Emet district of Kütahya has a population of three. The Dilekli village in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari and the Akımlı village in the Yedisu district of Bingöl each have four residents, while the Kemerli and Cevizdüzü villages in the central district of Şırnak, the Narlıdere village in the Eruh district of Siirt, and the Topalhasan village in the Tercan district of Erzincan each have five residents.
