Ibrahim Rezai, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, announced that they will respond decisively to Israel's attack on the Dahieh district of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
“SEE THE SKY OF ISRAEL TONIGHT”
Rezai, who argued that they need to 'discipline' Israel, said, “We will give a decisive response to the Zionist regime's attack on Dahieh. See the sky of the occupied territories (Israel) tonight.”
2 PEOPLE KILLED, 11 INJURED IN ISRAEL'S ATTACK
The Israeli army carried out an airstrike on the Dahieh district in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, despite the ceasefire. According to initial reports, 2 people died and 11 were injured in the airstrike.
In a joint statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, it was claimed that the attack was a response to rockets fired by Hezbollah toward northern Israel in the morning hours.
Israeli Army Spokesperson Avichay Adraee, in a post on his account on the social media platform of the US-based company X, claimed that the Israeli army targeted a Hezbollah infrastructure facility in Dahieh, south of Beirut.
Meanwhile, Israeli unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been flying at low altitudes over Lebanese skies since midday.
While sirens sounded in northern Israel in the morning hours, the Israeli army claimed that 2 rockets fired from Lebanon were intercepted after crossing the border. Israeli media also noted that this was the first rocket attack since the ceasefire on June 3.
ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON LEBANON AND THE CEASEFIRE
The Israeli army launched intense airstrikes on Lebanon on March 2, occupying many towns in the south of the country. During this period, the Lebanese government announced that the number of displaced people in the country had exceeded 1 million.
US President Donald Trump announced on April 24 that the 10-day temporary ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, which came into effect on April 17, had been extended for another 3 weeks.
As a result of the third round of talks between Lebanon and Israel, mediated by the US on May 14-15, it was decided to extend the ceasefire by 45 days as of May 17.
The US State Department announced on June 3, after the fourth round of talks in Washington, that Israel and Lebanon had agreed on a “comprehensive ceasefire” on the condition that Hezbollah completely halt its attacks and withdraw all its elements south of the Litani River. Hezbollah, however, announced that it rejected the conditional ceasefire.
But despite the announced ceasefire agreements, the Israeli army continues its attacks.
