Heavy rain and hail affecting Kırşehir, Ankara, and Afyonkarahisar have negatively impacted daily life. Dozens of people were stranded in floodwaters in Kırşehir, vehicles were submerged in water in Ankara, and agricultural lands and orchards suffered major damage in Afyonkarahisar. Teams have been mobilized across the three provinces, and damage assessment and evacuation efforts have begun.
The torrential rain and hail affecting Kırşehir, Ankara, and Afyonkarahisar have negatively impacted daily life. Floodwaters have struck vehicles and workplaces, leaving citizens stranded in some areas. Agricultural lands and orchards have also suffered extensive damage.
FLOOD DISASTER IN KIRŞEHİR
Due to the heavy rainfall that started in the evening hours in Kırşehir and quickly intensified, floods and water overflows occurred throughout the city. While streets and avenues turned into lakes, approximately 15 vehicles were stranded in floodwaters in the city center.
20 WORKPLACES FLOODED
Nearly 20 workplaces in the city center were flooded. Business owners and citizens tried to drain the water that entered the shops using their own means. Upon reports, AFAD, UMKE, police, and municipal teams were dispatched to the region.
While the rain continues to affect the city, teams have increased security measures, and warnings have been issued for citizens to be cautious.
260 CALLS RECEIVED, 22 PEOPLE RESCUED
Kırşehir Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek, along with Provincial Police Chief Mesut Görücü, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Gendarmerie Colonel Ahmet Yıldırım, and AFAD Kırşehir Provincial Director Uğur Olgun, conducted inspections in the affected areas.
In his statement, Governor Demiryürek stated that 56.4 kilograms of rain fell per square meter across the city in the last 24 hours, and a total of 260 flood and water overflow reports were received in the city center.
Demiryürek noted that in the incidents where most teams intervened, 22 stranded citizens were evacuated to safe areas, and no loss of life occurred.
Demiryürek stated that AFAD, the Special Provincial Administration, Kırşehir Municipality along with Mucur, Boztepe, and Kaman municipalities, police, and gendarmerie teams are continuing their work. He also stated that DSI teams and construction machinery are working in stream beds and areas at risk of flooding.
Noting that according to meteorological data, the rains are expected to continue until the night hours, Demiryürek warned citizens to stay away from stream beds and risky areas.
HAIL AND RAIN HIT ANKARA
The heavy rain and intermittent hail that affected the capital Ankara from the afternoon hours negatively impacted daily life.
In the Kahramankazan district, marble-sized hail fell, and the thickness of the accumulated hail reached up to 30 centimeters in places. Drivers had difficulty moving forward due to the hail accumulation on the roads. Agricultural lands were also damaged by the hail.
In the city center, due to the sudden heavy rain, citizens took shelter in enclosed areas, while water overflows occurred in some areas.
VEHICLES SUBMERGED IN WATER
The persistent heavy rain in Ankara caused serious problems, especially in the Yenimahalle district. In areas where roads turned into lakes, some vehicles were submerged up to halfway and broke down, remaining on the road.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality teams have started work to open grates and drain the water.
LOCATION OF NATIONAL MATCH EVENT CHANGED
Due to the severe rain, the venue for the planned viewing event of the A National Football Team's first World Cup match, which was to be held at Atatürk Forest Farm, was changed.
The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality stated that after the heavy rain, mud formed in the event area, and announced that the Turkey-Australia match would be watched in the 800-person hall at Kocatepe Cultural Center.
HAIL STRIKES AGRICULTURE IN AFYONKARAHİSAR
In the Taşoluk district of Sinanpaşa, Afyonkarahisar, a sudden severe hailstorm negatively impacted life.
Due to the hailstorm that began after a sudden drop in air temperature and lasted for minutes, streets and avenues turned white. While vehicles had difficulty moving on the roads, municipal teams, tractors, and construction machinery started work to open closed roads.
PRODUCERS' EFFORTS DAMAGED
Severe hailstorm caused great damage, especially in agricultural areas. Vegetable seedlings, crops, and fruit trees were damaged by the impact of the hail.
Fruits and leaves fell from the trees to the ground, while significant losses occurred in garden products. Producers stated that the hail was effective in a short time and that the products they had put great effort into were damaged.
DAMAGE ASSESSMENT STUDIES TO BE INITIATED
It was reported that after the rain ended, damage assessment studies will be initiated by the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams in the damaged cultivated areas and gardens in Taşoluk district.
Authorities emphasized that citizens should be careful and take precautions against possible adverse weather conditions in the region.
