Experts warned citizens about the increasing cases of ticks with the warming weather. Stating that Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) poses a serious risk, Prof. Dr. Faruk Karakeçili said that case density increases especially in June and July. Emphasizing that ticks should not be removed with bare hands, Karakeçili recommended wearing closed clothing in rural areas and regularly checking the body.

Following the rainfall, as the weather warms up, experts have issued a warning against ticks that emerge. It was stated that Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), which occurs especially as a result of tick bites, poses a serious health risk.

Prof. Dr. Faruk Karakeçili, Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at Erzincan Mengücek Gazi Training and Research Hospital, said that tick cases increase in spring and summer.

Karakeçili noted that the density of cases rises particularly in mid-June and July, and stated that the tick population is high this year.

“THOSE EXPOSED TO TICKS SHOULD APPLY TO THE HOSPITAL”

Karakeçili, stating that citizens exposed to ticks should go to a healthcare facility as soon as possible, said that if reaching the hospital is not possible, the tick should not be removed with bare hands.

Karakeçili said, “We recommend removing it appropriately using tweezers with the help of gloves or a bag.”

CLOSED CLOTHING WARNING

Karakeçili, emphasizing that closed clothing should be preferred in rural areas, said, “Closed shoes should be worn, and pant legs should be tucked into socks. Because ticks come from the ground and attach to our bodies. Additionally, the body should be checked regularly.”

Karakeçili, stating that protective sprays can also be used against ticks, said that citizens should act calmly and consciously without panic.
