Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that the armed attack on Fenerbahçe on April 4, 2015, in Trabzon has been reopened for review. Minister Gürlek stated, "The file was meticulously re-examined by the Department for Investigation of Unsolved Crimes. As a result of the review, a 'decision for annulment in the interest of the law' was taken as of yesterday. Our aim is to shed light on all aspects of this heinous attack."
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek made the following statements:
"The armed attack carried out on April 4, 2015, in Trabzon against the Fenerbahçe Sports Club football team has left deep scars in the memory of our nation and has been recorded as an unacceptable act targeting the spirit of sports and our social peace.
Despite the time that has passed, the fact that the incident has not been fully clarified in all its aspects and that the investigation concluded with a non-prosecution decision has continued to disturb the public conscience. We have carefully followed the justified reactions and expectations of justice from our citizens.
In this context, the file was re-examined meticulously by the Cold Case Crimes Investigation Department operating within our Ministry. As a result of the review, a decision for "appeal in the interest of the law" regarding the file was made as of yesterday.
With this decision, the way has been opened for a legal re-evaluation of the previously issued non-prosecution decision. Our aim is to shed light on all aspects of this heinous attack, uncover any negligence, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable before the law.
In line with the mandate given by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we will resolutely follow the process until justice is served. We will not allow any file to remain in the dark, nor will we permit any incident that wounds the public conscience to be covered up."
