The General Directorate of Meteorology announced that a 110-year temperature record will be broken in Istanbul today, while for Tuesday, March 18, temperatures are expected to drop by at least 20 degrees and snowfall is anticipated to engulf the country.
After the warnings from the Meteorology and AKOM, it is expected that the temperature record of 110 years will be broken in Istanbul today, while what will happen just 2 days later is worrying everyone. In the megacity, two seasons will be experienced within 5 days.
"THE RECORD OF 110 YEARS WILL BE BROKEN WITH 29 DEGREES"
Prof. Dr. Şen said; "We can say it is extremely hot for March. Normally, the average temperature is 12-13 degrees. The highest temperature measured so far is 27.5 degrees. Today, temperatures of 28-29 degrees can be observed. When it reaches 29 degrees, the record of 110 years will be broken. There is a very high probability that we will break the temperature record for March today and tomorrow. We used to see this temperature in June and July. Ankara is hotter. There, the record will likely be broken with 27-28 degrees.
BE CAREFUL ON TUESDAY
There has been extraordinary heat for two days, but cold weather is coming starting from Tuesday. We will experience two seasons within 5 days. Rain is coming to Marmara from Tuesday and Tuesday evening, and mixed rain and snow are coming to many parts of Anatolia. On Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be temperature drops of up to 20 degrees in the majority of Anatolia.
WILL IT SNOW IN ISTANBUL?
We cannot see snow in Istanbul. There may be mixed rain and snow at higher altitudes, but that is also a slim possibility. The temperature in Istanbul will drop to around 8 degrees on Tuesday. On Wednesday, it will be around 7-8 degrees. This is the temperature for mixed rain and snow; it needs to drop below that for snow. There is also mixed rain and snow in Anatolia. There is a high probability of snowfall in Ankara on Wednesday and Thursday."
