During excavation work carried out by a homeowner in northern Denmark for the construction of a terrace, a massive silver hoard from the Viking Age, consisting of more than 700 pieces, was uncovered.
In a report by DR, which broadcasts in Denmark, it was stated that a person living in Rebild in the north of the country found a large number of silver ingots, jewelry, coins, and a hammer during an excavation to build a terrace at his home.
IT CONSISTS OF 700 PIECES
The report stated that the Viking-era silver hoard weighs a total of 18.5 kilograms and consists of more than 700 pieces, noting that this is 3 times heavier than the last silver hoard found in Denmark.
IT HOLDS GREAT IMPORTANCE
Lars Christian Norbach, Director of the North Jutland Museum, said in a statement to DR that the found pieces hold great importance both in terms of weight and historical significance.
While it was reported that archaeologists will conduct research in the area to determine where the silver came from, it was noted that the value of the found pieces will be determined by the National Museum of Denmark.
