US President Donald Trump accused Iran of "violating the ceasefire." Trump stated that a tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz was targeted by four Iranian drones, one of which hit the tanker's upper deck, but the tanker continued on its way. Trump said the other three drones were shot down by the US military, adding, "Clearly, this is a stupid violation of our ceasefire agreement."

US President Donald Trump accused Iran of "violating the ceasefire" in a post on his social media account.

"TANKER TRANSITING THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ WAS TARGETED BY 4 DRONES BELONGING TO IRAN"

Trump stated in his statement that a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was targeted by four drones belonging to Iran, one of which struck the tanker's upper deck, but the tanker continued on its way. Noting that the other three drones were shot down by the US military, Trump said, "Clearly, this is a stupid violation of our ceasefire agreement."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) had announced that a commercial vessel was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz for the first time since the agreement signed between the US and Iran. In a statement from UKMTO, it was reported that a cargo ship sailing off the coast of Oman was hit by a projectile of undetermined origin. The statement noted that the hit projectile caused damage to the ship's bridge area.

It was reported that there were no casualties or injuries among the crew on board the ship during the attack. Officials also stated that the incident did not cause any spill that would lead to environmental pollution.

UKMTO announced that relevant authorities had launched an investigation after receiving the report of the attack. Ships sailing in the region were warned to be cautious and report any suspicious situations to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center.

THE AGREEMENT REACHED BETWEEN IRAN AND THE US

Iran and the US had announced on June 14 that they had reached a 14-article memorandum of understanding, through a mediation process facilitated by Pakistan, which envisages ending the war and resolving issues between the parties through negotiations.

The memorandum, called the "Islamabad Agreement," was signed digitally by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump that night and came into effect.

The agreement includes clauses such as ending the war, including in Lebanon, opening the Strait of Hormuz, and lifting the US naval blockade on Iran.

After the signing of the memorandum, the parties are expected to begin a 60-day negotiation process soon on issues such as Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions to reach a final agreement.
