U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will be sent to Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian President Zelensky. Bessent is expected to discuss rare earth minerals and the allocation of U.S. funds with the Ukrainian leader. It is worth noting that Trump had previously stated that they were seeking $500 billion worth of rare earth elements from Ukraine.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would send Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to Ukraine to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"I AM SENDING HIM TO MEET WITH ZELENSKY"

Trump made the statement on the social media platform Truth Social. Using the phrase, "I am sending Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to Ukraine to meet with President Zelensky," Trump stated that the Russia-Ukraine War should end soon, noting that there has been too much death and destruction.

"WHEN AMERICA IS STRONG, THE WORLD IS AT PEACE"

Trump commented, "The U.S. has spent billions of dollars globally, with very little to show for it. When America is strong, the world is at peace."

HE HAS RARE EARTH MINERALS IN HIS BAG

U.S. media reported that Bessent is expected to discuss sanctions, rare earth minerals, and where U.S. funds are going with the Ukrainian leader. Additionally, a spokesperson for Vice President JD Vance confirmed to Fox News that Vance would also meet with Zelensky during the Munich Security Conference program starting on February 14 in Germany.

HE HAD REQUESTED $500 BILLION WORTH OF RARE EARTH ELEMENTS

Recently, Trump indicated that Ukraine should receive a share of its vast natural resources in return for the aid the U.S. has provided to Ukraine.

Trump stated, "They have extremely valuable land in terms of rare minerals, oil, and gas. I want to secure our money because we are spending hundreds of billions of dollars. They can make a deal, or they may not. They could be Russian one day or not, but we will have all this money there, and I am saying I want it back. I told them that I wanted $500 billion worth of rare earth elements in return for this. They essentially agreed to do that, so at least we don't feel stupid. I told them: 'We need to get something. We can't keep paying this money.'

WHAT HAPPENED?

Today, during a signing ceremony at the White House, Trump stated that Keith Kellogg, the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, would soon visit Ukraine, and that he would "probably" speak with Ukrainian President Zelensky this week.

President Trump had previously stated that the Russia-Ukraine War needed to end as soon as possible and that he would soon meet with the leaders of both countries. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will also attend the conference in Munich. The ongoing Russia-Ukraine War will be the main agenda item at the conference.
