As tensions escalate with the resumption of mutual attacks between the US and Iran, a harsh message came from Donald Trump to Tehran. Following Iran's attacks on US military targets, Trump said, 'We will hit them hard. There will be a response.' A day later, Trump reposted the Breitbart article highlighting these remarks on his Truth Social account, bringing his threat against Iran back to the forefront.
Tension between the US and Iran has escalated again with new attacks around the Strait of Hormuz. After Washington and Tehran carried out their first direct mutual attacks in more than a month, US President Donald Trump sent a new military intervention message to Iran.
US STRIKES IRANIAN LAUNCH SYSTEMS
The development that raised tensions again occurred on August 30. The US military targeted two rocket launchers on Iran's Larak Island in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) argued that Iranian Revolutionary Guard elements were detected preparing to launch rockets and naval mines into the Strait of Hormuz, posing a threat to international maritime traffic. Iran, on the other hand, announced that there were dead and wounded in the attack. According to Iranian media, three people were killed in the attack.
RETALIATION FROM IRAN AGAINST US BASES
Tehran responded quickly to the US attack on Larak Island. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced that they targeted the technical and maintenance infrastructure of two US military facilities in Jordan, as well as points where fighter jets were located.
Iran also announced that dozens of attack drones were sent against US forces at Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates.
Trump, on the other hand, said that all but one of the missiles Iran sent to Jordan were intercepted by air defense systems. The US President stated that it was determined that the missile that was not intercepted was not aimed at a significant target.
TRUMP: WE WILL HIT THEM HARD
Speaking to Fox News after Iran's attacks, Trump clearly declared that Washington would respond. Trump said, "We will hit them hard. There will be a response."
The US President on Tuesday reshared Breitbart's news highlighting these words on his Truth Social account. Trump did not add a message to his post.
HE SOFTENED THE "ALL-OUT WAR" MESSAGE
Despite Trump's harsh threat, it was reported that in another statement to the Washington Post, he used expressions that downplayed the possibility of the conflict turning into a large-scale war again. While Trump signaled that military strikes against Iran could continue, he also said he did not consider using nuclear weapons.
Therefore, the latest messages from Washington are interpreted as indicating that there will be a military response to Iran's attack, but for now, it is not desired to turn into a broader war.
PEZESH KIAN: WE ARE NOT SEEKING WAR
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, on the other hand, said after the renewed escalation that his country does not want war. Pezeshkian emphasized that if Iran is attacked, it will not refrain from responding.
Pezeshkian also stated that if the US returns to its obligations under the previously agreed negotiation framework, Iran is also ready to respond.
TENSION REFLECTED IN OIL PRICES
The resumption of direct mutual attacks between the US and Iran after more than a month also showed its effect on global markets. The price of international benchmark Brent crude oil rose 2.7 percent on Monday to $90.49.
Developments in the Strait of Hormuz are being closely monitored. There are concerns that if the military tension in the region, which is critically important for world energy trade, grows further, pressure on oil supply and prices will increase.
