U.S. President Donald Trump, during his visit to North Carolina, which suffered significant damage from Hurricane Helene last year, reiterated his desire for Canada to become a state, saying, "If this happens, Canadian citizens will receive a huge tax cut, and you won't have to worry about the military. You won't have to worry about many things."

U.S. President Donald Trump, along with his wife Melania Trump, visited the state of North Carolina, which suffered significant damage due to Hurricane Helene last year. During the visit, Trump criticized the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

"FEMA DID NOT HANDLE THIS WELL AND WE WILL TURN IT AROUND"

Trump stated that he is considering steps that would lead to states taking the lead in disaster relief efforts instead of the federal government, saying, "We are reviewing the entire concept of FEMA. Frankly, I like the concept of the governor handling it when North Carolina is hit. The governor handles it when Florida is hit. So the state takes care of it. It doesn't help me at all to have a group of people coming from somewhere who don't even know where to go to solve a problem immediately," he said. Trump added, "In the future, disaster relief will go through us," stating, "So it will go through us instead of FEMA. I think this is a good place to start. Because if we need to give credit to the governor and everyone else, FEMA did not handle this well and we will turn it around."

HE PROMISED "TAX CUTS" AND "HEALTH INSURANCE" TO CANADIANS

In his speech, Trump also addressed the issue of Canada joining the U.S., promising Canadians a "huge tax cut" and "much better health insurance" if this were to happen.

"WE ARE LOSING $200 BILLION A YEAR TO CANADA"

Trump noted that if Canada were to become the 51st state of the U.S., there would be no need to worry about military issues, stating, "We are losing $200 billion a year to Canada. The reason is that we allow them to make cars and buy lumber. We don't need their cars, we don't need their lumber, we don't need their food products because we produce the same products on the other side of the border."

"THE PEOPLE OF CANADA WILL LIKE THIS"

Emphasizing his desire for Canada to become the 51st state, Trump said, "If this happens, Canadian citizens will receive a very large tax cut, and you won't have to worry about the military, you won't have to worry about many things. You will have better health coverage. You will have much better health coverage. I think the people of Canada will like this, of course, if it is announced."
