US President Donald Trump made notable criticisms of Kurdish groups in the region, claiming they are holding weapons that should be reaching Iranian protesters. Trump noted that Kurdish groups have a positive reputation in Congress, but he does not share this perception, saying, "The Kurds are always taking, taking, taking. They have a good reputation in Congress. Congress says that they fight very hard. But they only fight when they are paid."
US President Donald Trump made striking criticisms about Kurdish armed groups while responding to press questions about the Iran agenda following a meeting on health regulations at the White House.
“KURDS ALWAYS TAKE, TAKE, TAKE…”
Claiming that Kurdish groups are holding onto weapons meant to be delivered to Iranian protesters, Trump said, “The Kurds have let us down.”
Noting that Kurdish groups have a positive reputation in Congress but he does not share that perception, Trump stated, “Kurds always take, take, take. They have a good reputation in Congress. Congress says they fight very hard. But they fight when they get paid. So I am very disappointed with the Kurds.”
KURDISH GROUPS PREVIOUSLY DENIED ALLEGATIONS
Following Trump’s earlier similar remarks, some Kurdish groups had denied allegations that they received weapons from the US intended for Iranian protesters.
Trump’s latest comments are expected to reignite debates over US relations with Kurdish groups in the Middle East, the protests in Iran, and Washington’s covert support mechanisms in the region.
