Trump’s open support for Netanyahu ahead of elections: Bibi will never disappoint you

With only 9 days left until the elections in Israel, a notable show of support came from US President Donald Trump to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Declaring that he gave Netanyahu “full and decisive support,” Trump praised the Israeli Prime Minister with the words “Bibi will never let you down,” while describing him as the “Great Warrior Prime Minister.”

US President Donald Trump declared his support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of the elections planned in Israel on October 27. Trump described Netanyahu as the “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and defined the Israeli leader as an important partner in the struggle against Iran. The statement came at a time when polls highlighted the competition between Netanyahu’s Likud Party and former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar Party.

 “FULL AND ABSOLUTE SUPPORT” MESSAGE

Trump announced his support for Netanyahu’s re-election as prime minister in a post on his Truth Social account on October 18. In his message, the US President praised the Israeli leader, stating that Netanyahu would not disappoint him.

Trump used the phrase “Great Warrior Prime Minister” for Netanyahu, describing him as an important partner in the fight against Iran and in peace efforts. The US President also argued that if Israel chose the wrong leader, the struggle against Iran could fall on the US’s shoulders.

NETANYAHU THANKS TRUMP

Netanyahu also responded to Trump’s support via social media. The Israeli Prime Minister thanked the US President for his support and joint work, sharing the message, “We will complete the mission together.”

EISENKOT AND LIKUD RACE IN POLLS

Trump’s statement came at a time when the election race in Israel was intensifying. In a poll published by Israel’s public broadcaster KAN on October 12, it was predicted that the Yashar Party led by former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot could win 22 seats, while Netanyahu’s Likud Party could win 20 seats.

In the same poll, when asked about preference for prime minister, Eisenkot received 43 percent support and Netanyahu 38 percent. It was seen that the political bloc supported by Netanyahu remained below the 61 seats needed to form a government in the 120-seat parliament. The poll results revealed the importance of pre-election political competition and coalition calculations.

THE EFFECT OF TRUMP’S SUPPORT ON THE ELECTION IS A MATTER OF CURIOSITY

Trump announced his support for Netanyahu only nine days before the election. Although the two leaders have maintained a close political relationship for a long time, it was reported that they have occasionally experienced disagreements over strategies regarding the Iran war and regional developments.

It is not yet clear what effect Trump’s statement will have on Israeli voters. In the elections to be held on October 27, in addition to the distribution of seats among parties, whether a majority capable of forming a government can be established will also be decisive.
