US President Donald Trump announced that a nuclear deal with Iran could be signed within days and that the Strait of Hormuz would open following the agreement, while Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Baghaei stated that a final decision has not yet been made, that no red lines will be conceded in negotiations, and that the date and location regarding the deal have not been finalized.
US President Donald Trump made striking statements regarding the negotiations with Iran while answering questions from the press at the White House.
Starting with Iran, Trump said, "We have reached a major agreement regarding the war with Iran. It needs to be finalized within the next few days. We will probably have a signing ceremony in Europe. This is a great thing."
Stating that the stock market rose and oil prices fell following the news of the agreement, Trump said, "We have an agreement that Iran will never possess nuclear weapons. That was the main purpose of going through this entire process. So this is a very big event. We will have a signing ceremony soon. The documents are almost finalized."
"PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN WAS GREAT"
Trump, who said he expects the process to be completed in a short time, explained that he continues his contacts with regional leaders. Trump said, "I just spoke with Netanyahu. I spoke with the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, and other countries. We will also speak with Turkey. President Erdoğan was great, and this is a really great development. Pakistan was also magnificent."
Trump also said, "The entire Middle East is happy. Even places beyond the Middle East are happy. The strait will be opened as soon as the agreement is signed."
"THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ HAS BEEN EFFECTIVELY OPEN FOR MONTHS"
Reiterating the US claims of passing ships through the Strait of Hormuz without Iran's knowledge, Trump alleged that they had been moving large ships at night for the past month.
Trump said, "They turned off the lights. We bombed their radars and everything. So they couldn't see what was happening. We moved 25 ships some nights, 15 ships other nights." Stating that a large amount of oil is transported through the strait, Trump said, "The strait will also be officially opened the moment we sign the agreement."
EXPECTS A DROP IN OIL PRICES
Responding with "As far as I understand, yes" to the question of whether Iran's Supreme Leader Mucteba Hamaney approved the agreement, Trump said that the US would lift the blockade after the agreement is signed. Trump said, "And you will see oil prices drop like a rock."
To the question about nuclear materials and negotiations, he replied, "Yes, we have agreed in principle. No one can even get close to the nuclear materials because they are essentially buried under the mountain." Arguing that Iran has agreed to abandon its goal of developing nuclear weapons, Trump said, "They will not have nuclear weapons. They have agreed to that."
"THEY TOOK A TOO HEAVY BLOW TO WITHSTAND"
When reminded that an agreement with Iran had been close before but no result had been achieved, Trump replied, "Because they took a very heavy blow. They took a blow too heavy to withstand. They want the agreement much more than I do." Trump said, "I don't like having to do things this way, but I thought it was necessary."
"EVERYONE HAS APPROVED THE AGREEMENT"
Arguing that the agreement will yield positive results for the US, the Middle East, and Iran, Trump said, "We neutralized the first group of leaders. The second group of leaders is a different group and a different level. They have all approved the agreement. Everyone has approved the agreement. Now we will finalize it, and hopefully it will be completed." Trump added, "They want to sign it as much as I do. Actually, I could say they want it even more. Much more. It has also been accepted by many countries that have great influence over them. Everyone wants this to happen, and therefore it will happen."
"THE SIGNING CEREMONY COULD BE ON SATURDAY OR MONDAY"
Stating that he expects the agreement to be concluded shortly, Trump said, "They will make a deal. I would like to say that this will be a great deal. Because they will never have nuclear weapons. We hope this happens relatively quickly, but the straits will open as soon as the agreement is signed. The signing ceremony could be on Saturday or Monday. We think this will progress quite quickly."
CAUTIOUS MESSAGE FROM IRAN
Following Trump's statements, a statement came from Ismail Bekayi, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Speaking to IRNA News Agency, Bekayi said that Iran has not yet made its final decision regarding a possible agreement with the US.
Emphasizing that Iran will not compromise on its red lines in the negotiations, Bekayi stated that news about the time and place of the agreement's signing was speculative.
While Bekayi confirmed that a large part of the negotiation text has been completed, he also stated that the US changed its position many times during the talks.
ACCUSATION OF 'STATE PIRACY' AGAINST THE US
In a statement on his social media account, Bekayi also strongly reacted to the US military's attack on the Palau-flagged M/T Settebello vessel passing through the Gulf of Oman. Stating that 3 Indian sailors lost their lives in the attack, Bekayi described the incident as "clear evidence of America's ongoing policy of armed robbery and state piracy."
Extending his condolences to the families of the deceased sailors and the people of India, Bekayi said, "The international community must hold the US accountable for its unlawful actions, as it continues to jeopardize freedom of navigation in the seas and threaten global peace and security."
