Journalist Lopez Valdez, who worked on police and court news in Mexico's Veracruz state, was killed in a armed attack while driving his vehicle. As the newspaper called for justice, an investigation was launched into the incident, with Veracruz noted as one of the country's most dangerous regions for journalists.
According to reports in the Mexican press, journalist Lopez Valdez, who covers police and court news, was attacked with firearms in the Colonia Cazones neighborhood of Poza Rica, Veracruz.
Initial findings indicate that Valdez was stopped by armed individuals while driving his vehicle. The journalist, seriously injured in the gunfire, died at the scene.
JUSTICE CALL FROM HIS NEWSPAPER
In a statement on the social media accounts of the newspaper where Valdez worked, it was confirmed that the journalist lost his life as a result of an armed attack in the early hours of the morning.
In its statement, the newspaper management said, "We demand justice from the State Commission for the Protection and Support of Journalists (CEAPP) for the Vanguardia de Veracruz correspondent. This murder must not go unpunished."
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED
The Veracruz Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigation has been launched into the journalist's murder. It was reported that efforts to identify the perpetrators of the incident are ongoing.

The state of Veracruz is considered among the regions where attacks on journalists frequently occur. Known as one of the country's riskiest states for media members, Veracruz has previously seen many journalists attacked.
According to data from Reporters Without Borders (RSF), more than 150 media workers have been killed in Mexico since 1994, a country regarded as one of the most dangerous in the world for journalistic activities.
