U.S. President Donald Trump signed a presidential decree proposing to change the name of the Department of Defense to the "Department of War."
President Trump announced during a press conference in the Oval Office that they are taking a new step regarding the restructuring of the Pentagon.
THE NAME OF THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE HAS OFFICIALLY CHANGED
Trump stated that he would sign a presidential decree to change the name of the Department of Defense to "Department of War" and that they would present their requests to Congress for the necessary legal arrangements to be made.
The U.S. President remarked, "We won World War I, we won World War II. We won everything before and in between. Then we changed the name of the department to the Department of Defense. Now we are giving it the name Department of War."
Trump also addressed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who was present in the room, saying, "I want our Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to say a few words. I think this name is much more appropriate, especially considering the current state of the world."
"I KNOW THEY HAVE TO DO THIS"
In response to the question, "Will Congress make the legal arrangements regarding the name change of the department?" Trump said, "I don't know, I'm not sure, but I know they have to do this. We are signing this presidential decree today, but we will see what Congress does. We are very determined on this and we will present it to Congress."
On the other hand, it is stated that due to the Republicans having a majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, the likelihood of the legal arrangements being made is high.
The Department of War was established in 1789 when the U.S. Constitution came into effect. It was renamed the Department of Defense in 1947 with a law enacted two years after the end of World War II.
THREATENED VENEZUELA
Trump, amid tensions with Venezuela, stated, "(The planes belonging to Venezuela flying over U.S. warships) I think they are going to get themselves into trouble. We are telling them this. If they fly in a dangerous position, our captains will decide what they want to do. If they put us in a dangerous situation, those planes will be shot down."
"WE ARE HAVING VERY INTENSE NEGOTIATIONS WITH HAMAS"
In response to a question regarding Gaza, Trump said, "We are having very intense negotiations with Hamas. We told them to release all the hostages immediately, and then much better things will happen; if they do not release all of them, the situation will be very bad."
Trump indicated that they are negotiating with Hamas regarding the release of 20 hostages and also expressed that they believe 30 hostages have died.
