Striking developments are unfolding in the investigation of Gülistan Doku, a university student who went missing in Tunceli. In simultaneous operations across 15 provinces over allegations of evidence tampering and misconduct, 18 police personnel, including 5 senior officials, have been detained. Meanwhile, it has emerged from the case file that the assets declared by Handan Sonel, wife of the arrested former Governor Tuncay Sonel, and a monthly rental income of 700,000 Turkish Lira from a workplace in Adana have been revealed.
The investigation launched after the murder of university student Gülistan Doku, who went missing in Tunceli on January 5, 2020, continues to expand.
Under the coordination of the Erzurum and Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, teams from the Erzurum Provincial Gendarmerie Command carried out simultaneous operations in 15 provinces this morning.
OPERATION AGAINST SECURITY PERSONNEL: 18 DETAINED
According to a report by Sözcü, within the scope of the investigation, raids were conducted at 21 addresses in provinces including Nevşehir, Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Antalya against suspects accused of committing irregularities in the judicial process and tampering with evidence during the tenure of former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel.
ALL DETAILS ARE BEING HANDLED WITH METICULOUS CARE
During the operations, 18 suspects were detained, including Nevşehir Deputy Police Chief Ertuğrul Aslan, 1 police superintendent, 1 chief inspector, 1 inspector, 1 chief officer, 10 police officers, 1 computer operator, and 3 retired police officers. Efforts are ongoing to capture 1 fugitive suspect.
Meanwhile, it was reported that proceedings continue against the detained former Governor Tuncay Sonel regarding allegations that he threatened a woman, changed his phone, placed a tracking device in her vehicle, and forced her to go abroad.
STAGGERING ASSETS ENTERED INTO THE FILE
One of the most striking details of the investigation emerged from the testimony of Handan Sonel, the wife of detained former Governor Tuncay Sonel. The family's movable and immovable assets officially declared by Handan Sonel and recorded in the investigation file are listed as follows:
- Ankara: A hobby garden valued at 3 million TL and a residence registered under Tuncay Sonel's name
- Adana: A 5-story commercial center (monthly rental income of 700,000 TL)
- Antalya (Gazipaşa): A plot of land
- Istanbul: A studio apartment registered under their son Mustafa Türkay Sonel's name
- Vehicles and Jewelry: 2 BMW-brand cars and jewelry worth 13.4 million TL
