According to the comparison made since 1971, June 2024 was recorded as the hottest June in the last 53 years in Turkey. The lowest temperature in June was recorded in Erzurum with 1.6 degrees, while the highest temperature was recorded in Şanlıurfa Ceylanpınar with 47.8 degrees.
Last month, average temperatures in Turkey were recorded as the hottest June in the past 53 years.
According to data compiled from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change's General Directorate of Meteorology by AA correspondent, average temperatures last month were around seasonal norms in the Ağrı Doğubeyazıt region, but above seasonal norms in other parts of the country. The average temperature for June, measured between 1991 and 2020, was 21.8 degrees Celsius nationwide, but last month it was recorded as 25.4 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees above the norm.
UNPRECEDENTED IN 53 YEARS
Temperature analysis shows that June 2024 was the hottest June in the past 53 years, compared to data from 1971 onwards. The lowest temperature in June was recorded as 1.6 degrees Celsius in Erzurum, while the highest temperature was 47.8 degrees Celsius in Şanlıurfa Ceylanpınar.
TEMPERATURES BY REGION
In the Marmara Region, average temperatures were above seasonal norms throughout the region. The average temperature for June in the region was 25.3 degrees Celsius. The lowest and highest temperatures in the region were recorded in Balıkesir, with 11.2 degrees Celsius being the lowest and 41.4 degrees Celsius being the highest.
In the Aegean Region, average temperatures were above seasonal norms throughout the region. The average temperature for June 2024 in the region, which was 28 degrees Celsius, had a lowest temperature of 8.1 degrees Celsius in Gediz and a highest temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius in Aydın.
In the Mediterranean Region, average temperatures were above seasonal norms throughout the region. The average temperature for last month in the region was measured as 28.2 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature in the Mediterranean region was 11 degrees Celsius in Kahramanmaraş Göksun, while the highest temperature was 44.7 degrees Celsius in Antalya Manavgat.
In the Central Anatolia Region, average temperatures were above seasonal norms throughout the region. The average temperature for June 2024 in the region, which was measured as 23.4 degrees Celsius, had a lowest temperature of 2.7 degrees Celsius in Sivas Kangal and a highest temperature of 39.3 degrees Celsius in Ankara Polatlı.
In the Black Sea Region, average temperatures were above seasonal norms. The average temperature for June in the region was 22.8 degrees Celsius, with the lowest temperature being 4.8 degrees Celsius in Bayburt and the highest temperature being 39.7 degrees Celsius in Düzce.
In the Eastern Anatolia Region, average temperatures were around seasonal norms in the Doğubeyazıt region, but above seasonal norms in other parts of the region. The average temperature for last month in the region was recorded as 21.8 degrees Celsius, with the lowest temperature being 1.6 degrees Celsius in Erzurum and the highest temperature being 40.1 degrees Celsius in Elazığ Palu.
In the Southeastern Anatolia Region, average temperatures were above seasonal norms throughout the region. The average temperature for June in the region was 31.1 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature in the region was 13 degrees Celsius in Batman, while the highest temperature was 47.8 degrees Celsius in Ceylanpınar.
