Turkey's Borsa Istanbul Closes Wednesday With New Record

BIST 100 index gains 27.74 points, or 1.55%, from previous close.

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended with gains on Wednesday to finish at 1,812.30 points – a new record high closing.

After starting the day at 1,808.67 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 27.74 points, or 1.55%, from Tuesday's close of 1,784.56 points.

The BIST 100's lowest value during the day was 1,798.96 points, while the daily high was 1,834.51 points.

The total market value of the index was over 1.4 trillion Turkish liras ($119.1 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 47.6 billion Turkish liras ($3.7 billion).

A total of 75 stocks on the index rose, 23 fell, and two remained unchanged, compared to Tuesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and private lender Yapi Kredi. Shares of budget airline Pegasus performed the best, rising 9.96%, while stocks of oil refiner Tupras dropped the most, 5.33%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,789.10 by market close, down from $1,796.80, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil remained almost unchanged at $82.28 per barrel as of 6.25 p.m. local time (1525GMT).
