Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated in a statement in Qatar that the Strait of Hormuz needs to be reopened, emphasizing that not using the strait as a weapon is critically important for the global economy and regional stability. Fidan also said that Israel's policies have turned into a global security issue.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha, the capital of Qatar. At the joint press conference held after the meeting, the tension in the region and the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz were on the agenda.

“THE CLOSURE OF THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ AFFECTS THE WORLD”

Hakan Fidan stated that the tension in the Strait of Hormuz puts serious pressure on energy security, the global economy, and regional stability. Noting that the fundamental expectation of the world public is for the parties to reach an agreement as soon as possible, Fidan expressed that the strait should not be used as a “weapon.”

Fidan said, “Restoring navigational safety, not returning to war, and keeping the Strait of Hormuz open are of great importance. Both sides want the war to stop and the strait to open.”

“ISRAEL’S POLICIES ARE A GLOBAL SECURITY ISSUE”

Criticizing Israel’s policies in the region, Fidan stated, “The policies put forward by Israel have now become a global security issue.”

Fidan emphasized that Israel’s stance in Gaza and Syria has cost many lives, noting that ceasefire violations in Gaza have increased and the extraordinary conditions in the region require more diplomatic contacts.

MESSAGE FROM QATAR TO IRAN

Qatari Foreign Minister Al Sani, in his statement, noted that Iran should not use the Strait of Hormuz as a pressure tool against Gulf countries, saying, “The Strait of Hormuz should not be a means of blackmail or pressure.”
