One of Turkey's leading internet service providers, TurkNet, made another statement following a cyber attack on its corporate database. The statement mentioned that official institutions are being collaborated with in response to the cyber attack, and it included the phrase "some credentials may have been leaked."
The internet service provider TurkNet witnessed one of the largest hacker attacks in its history. The hacker named "Hades_hgs" claimed to have gained access to the company's systems and stated that he could disrupt internet services across Turkey. Moreover, he shared a list containing the information he obtained to validate his claim. In that list, he alleged that the personal data of two million internet users, including their names, surnames, phone numbers, Turkish ID numbers, identity information, TurkNet subscription details, addresses, and static IP information, was included.
TURKNET: WE ARE CONDUCTING THE PROCESS WITH BTK AND KVKK
TurkNet announced that the attack was detected on March 11, 2025, and immediate precautions were taken. In a statement from the company, it was emphasized: "As TurkNet, we continue to adhere to our principles of transparency and trust. After the attack, we increased technical and administrative measures to ensure security. While our customers' financial information and user passwords are safe, some identity information may have been leaked. We are conducting the process with the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) and the Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK)."
TurkNet also stated that its customers can safely use the Online Transaction Center and mobile applications.
FIRST THREATENED, THEN TOOK ACTION
The hacker named Hades_hgs claimed in a statement on social media that he had accessed data belonging to 2.8 million customers and could sell it. The hacker stated that he demanded a ransom of 3 Bitcoins (approximately 248 thousand dollars or 9 million TL) from TurkNet. Additionally, the hacker, who claimed to have previously infiltrated the HGS system and just got out of prison, alleged that he also shared the personal information of internet phenomenon Jahrein.
