Tolga Derebaşı, 28, was seriously injured by bullets that hit his stomach and leg when he was attacked by two people on a motorcycle in Kağıthane, Istanbul. The young man, who took refuge in a nearby car wash in desperation, died in the hospital where he was taken. It drew attention that a taxi driver was also killed in an armed attack in the same neighborhood 3 days ago. Police have launched a pursuit of the fleeing attackers.
Two armed attacks three days apart in the same neighborhood caused unease in Istanbul's Kağıthane district. In the latest incident, 28-year-old Tolga Derebaşı, who was targeted by motorcycle-mounted attackers, lost his life.
HE WENT TO GET KEYS, BECAME THE TARGET OF BULLETS
The incident occurred around 18:00 in Hamidiye Neighborhood of Kağıthane. According to the allegation, Tolga Derebaşı, who went to an auto body shop to get keys, was subjected to an armed attack by two people on a motorcycle while he was on the street. The suspects approached Derebaşı and opened fire in succession with the gun they had with them. After firing 5-6 rounds, the attackers fled the scene on a motorcycle. While gunshots caused panic in the neighborhood, the seriously injured young man headed toward a nearby business.
HE WAS WOUNDED BY 4 BULLETS AND TOOK REFUGE IN A CAR WASH
Derebaşı, who was hit by two bullets each in his stomach and leg in the attack, took refuge wounded in a nearby car wash. People nearby notified medical teams for the 28-year-old young man, whose body was hit by 4 bullets. Upon the report, police and medical teams were dispatched to the area. Medical personnel gave first aid to seriously injured Derebaşı at the scene. The young man was then put in an ambulance and taken to hospital urgently.
HE DIED AT THE HOSPITAL
Doctors intervened to save Tolga Derebaşı, who was brought to the hospital seriously injured. However, 28-year-old Derebaşı died despite all the interventions. After the young man's death, the investigation into the incident was expanded. The moments when Derebaşı was carried out of the car wash on a stretcher and taken to the ambulance were also captured by a mobile phone camera. In the footage, medical teams were seen taking the injured young man to the ambulance, while citizens nearby were seen panicking because of what happened.
POLICE IN PURSUIT OF 2 MOTORCYCLE ATTACKERS
Following the armed attack, teams from Kağıthane District Police Department conducted an examination in the area. Police, evaluating the evidence at the scene, launched work to identify the two suspects who fled by motorcycle after carrying out the attack. While the reason for the attack has not yet become clear, the investigation to catch the suspects continues.
ANOTHER MURDER WAS COMMITTED IN THE SAME NEIGHBORHOOD 3 DAYS AGO
The killing of Tolga Derebaşı also brought to mind another armed attack that took place in the same neighborhood shortly before. Around 16:30 on Wednesday, October 21, taxi driver Eser Aktaş was subjected to an armed attack, again in Hamidiye Neighborhood. Aktaş died as a result of gunfire while sitting in the driver's seat of a parked car registered in his ex-wife's name.
