Two Mexican fishermen whose boat sank in the Pacific were rescued by the navy after drifting for 5 days in a fish box. Surviving without food or water, the fishermen were transported by helicopter to port.

Two fishermen who drifted for 5 days without food and water, 241 kilometers off the coast in the ocean in Mexico, have been reported rescued.

According to reports in the national press, after a missing person report was filed for two Mexican fishermen, aged 53 and 32, the Mexican Navy launched an extensive air and sea search operation in the Pacific Ocean.

FOUND AFTER 5 DAYS

Teams found the two fishermen 241 kilometers off the coast of the state of Chiapas, on the border with Guatemala, inside a fish storage box that they managed to climb into and stay afloat on after their boat sank.

According to a statement from the Mexican Navy, the two fishermen, who were taken to port by helicopter, were reunited with their families after receiving medical treatment.

In a video shared by the Navy, the two fishermen waiting inside a large turquoise box drifting among ocean waves and the rescue teams approaching them were seen. The teams approaching the box safely brought the two fishermen aboard the boat and rescued them.

"WE DIDN'T BELIEVE WE COULD SURVIVE"

One of the fishermen, regarding their experience, said, "We didn't believe we could survive these days. All we could do was pray to God and wait for the help of the Navy teams."

The other fisherman also said, "It was the hardest thing imaginable. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy," and added that they had nothing to eat or drink during the 5 days they spent at sea.
