From a group of five climbers from Antalya, Mehmet Kocaakça and Kazım Güler lost their lives due to hypothermia on the summit of Mount Elbrus in Russia. Rescue teams intervened and managed to save three other climbers.

Mehmet Kocaakça, a nature lover and mountaineer from Antalya, lost his life due to hypothermia at the summit of Mount Elbrus in Russia, where he went with 4 friends.

The group of 5, consisting of nature lover and mountaineer Mehmet Kocaakça, Dr. Adnan Sarı and tourism professional İzzet Köseoğlu from Alanya, Cihan Yıldırım from Antalya, and Dr. Kazım Güler from Bursa, traveled to Russia on Sunday.

TURKISH MOUNTAINEERS LOST THEIR LIVES

According to the information obtained, yesterday, the group of 5 climbed the world-famous Mount Elbrus, which is 5,642 meters high. While the climbers reached the summit of the mountain, they experienced hypothermia, and Alanya climbers Dr. Adnan Sarı and tourism professional İzzet Köseoğlu managed to descend with their own efforts after calling for help.

Upon the call for help, the Elbrus High Mountain Search and Rescue Team, consisting of 6 members, reached Cihan Yıldırım from Antalya, who was about to freeze, while it was determined that Mehmet Kocaakça from Manavgat had lost his life. As a result of the searches, the lifeless body of Dr. Kazım Güler was also found.

STATEMENT FROM RUSSIA

In a statement from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, it was said, "On April 22, a group of 5 tourists sought emergency assistance at an altitude of 5,300 meters on Elbrus. Two of the participants suffered from altitude sickness. Six rescue workers from the Elbrus High Mountain Search and Rescue Team of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations were dispatched to the emergency site. 2 tourists were found dead, while 1 tourist was rescued, and it was determined that 2 tourists managed to save themselves."
