An ugly attack was carried out by the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) against the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in Cyprus.
THEY THREW STONES AND EXPLOSIVES AT CIVILIANS
On the GCA-controlled side of the capital Nicosia, today, Greek groups gathered to commemorate the anniversary of the terrorist organization EOKA, and in the afternoon, they attacked civilian citizens sitting at the Girne Castle on the TRNC side of Nicosia with stones, sticks, and homemade explosives from the zero point of the border and the UN-controlled buffer zone.
After the attack, the TRNC police increased security measures in the area, while UN Peacekeeping soldiers also took security measures in the buffer zone. It was reported that no injuries occurred in the incident.
CONDOLENCE FROM TRNC PRESIDENT ERHÜRMAN
TRNC President Tufan Erhürman strongly condemned the attack, calling for a swift intervention from the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping and GCA leadership. Erhürman urged that necessary steps be taken as quickly as possible and that information be shared with the relevant authorities. Erhürman stated, "This attack occurred in an area where both the UN Peacekeeping has responsibility due to its buffer zone nature and the Greek Cypriot leadership has responsibility due to its use as a road, and contact has been established with the UN Peacekeeping and our counterparts in the south regarding this incident."
“IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT NO MEASURES WERE TAKEN”
Erhürman said, "On a day like April 1, when it can be predicted by everyone that such incidents could occur, it is unacceptable for no measures to have been taken in such an area. I strongly condemn those who carried out the attack and expect both the UN Peacekeeping, with whom we have established contact, and the Greek Cypriot leadership to take the necessary initiatives as quickly as possible and share information with our relevant authorities," he stated.
The TRNC President continued his remarks as follows: "We will follow up on the urgent initiation of the necessary judicial investigation by the relevant authorities of the Greek Cypriot leadership and ensure that those who carried out this attack are subjected to the necessary legal proceedings. No citizen has been harmed in the incident. I once again strongly condemn those who carried out this attack, emphasizing that it is unacceptable for necessary measures not to have been taken on such a day, and I reiterate that we will closely monitor the process that the UN Peacekeeping and the Greek Cypriot leadership will follow."
TERRORIST ORGANIZATION EOKA
The terrorist organization EOKA was founded by Greek Cypriot Greek officer Yeoryos Grivas in the mid-1950s with the aim of ending Cyprus's status as a "British royal colony" and ensuring the unification of the island with Greece. The terrorist organization EOKA, which attempted numerous mass massacres to expel Turks from the newly established state with the end of British rule in Cyprus and the establishment of the "Republic of Cyprus," also killed Greek Cypriots who did not adopt its views.
