While the US blockade of Iranian ports around the Strait of Hormuz continues, tensions escalated into a missile attack in the Gulf of Oman. The US military disabled a Gambia-flagged commercial vessel advancing toward Iranian ports, ignoring warnings, by striking it with a Hellfire missile fired from a fighter jet. Iran, threatening retaliation, stated that it controls the Strait of Hormuz and announced it would directly target military vessels interfering with traffic.
As the US blockade of Iranian ports around the Strait of Hormuz continues, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that a commercial vessel sailing in the Gulf of Oman was detected heading towards Iranian ports.
MISSILE INTERVENTION ON GAMBIA-FLAGGED SHIP
CENTCOM reported that over 20 warning calls were made to the Gambia-flagged vessel "M/V Lian Star" to change its course, but the warnings were ignored. Accordingly, the ship was intercepted, and a US warplane targeted the ship's engine room with an AGM-114 Hellfire guided missile. The statement noted that the intervention disabled the vessel's mobility, and it is no longer heading towards Iranian ports.
CENTCOM also stated that under the US blockade on Iranian ports, 5 commercial vessels have been disabled to date, and 116 ships have been forced to change course.
IRAN: INTERVENING MILITARY SHIPS WILL BE TARGETED
Meanwhile, in a written statement by the Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, the unit responsible for directing the war of the Iranian Armed Forces, it was stated that "the management of the Strait of Hormuz is carried out with full authority by the Iranian Armed Forces."
The statement emphasized that all vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz must use only designated routes and obtain permission from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, adding, "Violation of these regulations will seriously jeopardize their transit safety."
The statement noted: "Furthermore, it is warned that military vessels attempting to interfere with the management of the Strait of Hormuz or disrupt traffic will be targeted by the Iranian Armed Forces."
