A verdict was handed down years later in the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, who lost his life in a shooting attack in Las Vegas in 1996. Duane “Keffe D” Davis, accused of organizing the murder, was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison.
Duane “Keffe D” Davis, found guilty of organizing the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, who died in 1996, was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison. The decision in the trial held in Las Vegas, Nevada, marked an important stage in a murder case that had remained unsolved for nearly 30 years.
HE WAS FOUND GUILTY IN AUGUST Davis, 63, was found guilty of first-degree murder after hearings held in August. It was reported that Davis, who received a sentence of 40 years to life with the decision announced in Las Vegas on October 13, could become eligible for parole at the earliest at age 100, even if the time he has spent in prison is taken into account.
Tupac Shakur CLAIM OF REVENGE BEHIND THE MURDER The prosecution argued that former gang leader Davis organized the attack for revenge after a fight between his nephew Orlando Anderson and Tupac Shakur’s entourage. As part of the investigation, interviews Davis had given in the past and accounts in his memoir published in 2019 were also used as evidence.
Tupac Shakur was shot while riding in a vehicle in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, and died six days after the attack. Music producer Marion “Suge” Knight, who was in the vehicle at the time, survived the attack.
DAVIS WILL APPEAL THE DECISION Davis’s lawyer announced that his client would appeal the conviction. Davis became the only person tried in connection with the murder, while the investigation into Tupac’s death had not been concluded for decades.
