Volcano erupts in Indonesia, 20 climbers stranded

After the eruption of Mount Dukono on Indonesia's Halmahera Island, 20 climbers were trapped. The volcano spewed ash up to 10 kilometers into the sky, prompting the deployment of numerous rescue teams to the area. Nine of the stranded individuals were reported to be from Singapore. Authorities warned against approaching the crater area and highlighted the risk of volcanic mudflows following rainfall.

An operation has been launched to rescue 20 climbers stranded after the eruption of Mount Dukono on Indonesia's Halmahera Island. Authorities stated that a large-scale, police-supported evacuation operation is underway for the climbers.

ASH CLOUD REACHED 10 KILOMETERS

Mount Dukono in North Maluku province erupted on Friday at 7:41 AM local time. Indonesia's Volcanology Agency announced that the eruption spewed ash up to approximately 10 kilometers into the sky. Authorities have maintained the volcano's alert level at the third-highest level.

9 OF THE STRANDED ARE SINGAPOREANS

Local rescue agency official Iwan Ramdani told Reuters that dozens of personnel have been deployed to the area to find the 20 stranded climbers. It was reported that 9 of the climbers are Singaporean, while the others are Indonesian.

WARNING TO LOCAL RESIDENTS

Authorities asked residents not to approach within 4 kilometers of the crater. A warning was also issued regarding the risk of volcanic mudflows in the event of rainfall.

NO FLIGHT DISRUPTIONS

No official statement has been made so far regarding any disruptions to air travel following the eruption.
