Volkan Girgin, who brought the character Recep to life in Yedi Numara, one of the unforgettable productions of Turkish television, made striking statements about the series years later. Criticizing today's television world, the famous actor said that it is not possible for the beloved series to be broadcast today.
The TV series Yedi Numara, which aired on TRT 1 between 2000 and 2003 and remained in viewers' memories with its reruns, is being talked about again years later. Actor and screenwriter Volkan Girgin, who played the character Recep Ballıoğlu in the series, evaluated the change in the television industry in the AA Podcast program he appeared on.
"YEDI NUMARA COULD NOT BE AIRED TODAY"
Asked what kind of impact Yedi Numara would have if it were aired today, Girgin replied, "It could not be aired. The comedy genre has already disappeared." Noting that series today face ratings pressure, the actor pointed out that productions that fail to achieve sufficient viewership can be taken off the air even after the first episode.
"NO ONE TELLS ANYONE, 'BRING ME HIS CARCASS'"
Explaining the difference between today's series and Yedi Numara, Girgin said the old production focused on more human and everyday stories. Stating that the characters in the series experienced money problems, sought the truth, and tried to solve their issues by talking, the actor used the expressions, "No one says to anyone, 'Bring me his carcass!' or anything like that."
IT HAD AIRED ITS FINALE 23 YEARS AGO
Bringing together names such as Şebnem Sönmez, Engin Alkan, Volkan Girgin, and Gülden Güney, Yedi Numara began its broadcast life on October 9, 2000. The series, which told the stories of a group of university students unfolding around the same house, ended with its 92nd episode on June 23, 2003. The character Recep, played by Girgin, remained in memories with his stingy manner and his line "There is no need for extravagance."
