The Dutch government has officially declared a water shortage due to the heat wave and ongoing drought. Additional water management measures have been implemented in the country.
The water crisis in the Netherlands is deepening due to the drought. In a statement from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, it was noted that the amount of water is decreasing while demand is increasing due to the ongoing drought.
COUNTRY MOVES TO 'ACTUAL WATER SHORTAGE' LEVEL
The statement said, "River flows are at historically low levels, and water demand is high due to the hot summer. This situation is expected to continue in the coming weeks, and therefore additional measures have been taken to distribute the available water as effectively as possible. Drinking water supply will not be affected. Drinking water is available and will continue to be available. Upon the recommendation of the National Water Distribution Coordination Committee, it has been decided to move from the 'impending water shortage' level to the 'actual water shortage' level."
