CHP Deputy Group Chair Murat Emir held a press conference following the morning scuffle at CHP headquarters and the heightened tension after police arrived for evacuation. Stating that they had secured an appointment from the Ministry of Interior, Emir said, "We will go and convey our views and demands. We expect a solution from the Minister that will prevent any bloodshed, avoid damage to our democracy, and instead foster hope for our democracy."
The scuffle that started in front of the CHP headquarters in the morning hours, following eviction debates and police activity, led CHP Deputy Group Chair Murat Emir to hold a comprehensive press conference at the party headquarters. Emir described the events as an "attempted coup against democracy" and argued that there was an attempt to forcibly enter the headquarters.
The tension, which began in the morning with the arrival of individuals close to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and some deputies in front of the headquarters, quickly turned into a scuffle. Police teams later arrived at the building for an eviction notice but could not enter due to the doors being locked.
"A SERIOUS BLOW WAS ATTEMPTED AGAINST OUR DEMOCRACY" In his statement, Murat Emir said: "Today, a heavy blow was attempted against our democracy, our ballot box was attempted to be stolen, and to do this, an attempt was made to forcibly enter our headquarters with brute force and coercion. We have clearly stated from the beginning that there cannot be a decision of absolute nullity, that it is a decision produced in complete violation of relevant laws, that it is a concept created to upend the political regime in the Republic of Turkey, and that its ultimate aim is a political operation."
"THEY CHOSE TO ATTACK THE INSTITUTIONAL IDENTITY OF THE CHP" Emir, who argued that a political operation was being conducted against the CHP, made statements targeting the government.
Emir said: "Those who could not prevent the rise of the CHP, could not stand in the way of its march to power, could not bend the wrist of our presidential candidate, first carried out a coup in Istanbul but when they failed, they chose to attack the institutional identity of the CHP. This attack is unlawful and unjust. Therefore, we do not and will not accept it."
CHP Deputy Group Chair Murat Emir "THE ONLY WAY OUT OF HERE IS THE CONGRESS" Emir, stating that they were seeking a solution to the crisis within the party, announced that they planned to meet with the Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu camp. Emir said: "While saying these things, we also looked for ways to overcome this crisis with the least possible damage, by establishing communication worthy of the CHP's history and responsibility. We tried to communicate. Until late last night, two of our fellow deputies, I, and Mr. Suat Özçağdaş had agreed to meet today, specifically to finalize and determine the congress date."
Emphasizing that the congress is the only solution, Emir continued: "For us, this is an attempted coup. It is the theft of the ballot box, the destruction of the multi-party regime. Therefore, there is only one way out of here, and that is the congress."
"BRING THE BALLOT BOX" Murat Emir, stating that the extraordinary congresses previously held by the CHP were disregarded, said: "Since you do not recognize the extraordinary congresses we held, then bring the ballot box. But if you want a document, let's hold a congress with that. While this was our expectation, our friends showed up at our door at the crack of dawn, almost threatening us, with mafia thugs they found somewhere."
"WE REPELLED THE ATTACK ATTEMPT" Referring to the scuffle that took place in front of the headquarters in the morning hours, Emir said: "With the resistance of our organization, we repelled this attack attempt and are in search of a new compromise. We say that neither our country, nor our people, nor CHP members deserve such a crisis, and that this crisis must definitely be resolved through communication, and we believe this."
"WE WILL MEET WITH THE MINISTER OF INTERIOR" Murat Emir also announced that they had requested an appointment from the Ministry of Interior following the developments.
Emir said: "Precisely for this reason, we requested an appointment from the Minister of Interior and will go shortly. We will convey our views, our demands, what we see as critical demands, and we expect a solution from the Minister where no one is hurt, not even the slightest move is made against any of our police officers, our democracy is not harmed, but on the contrary, we will grow hope for our democracy. We will meet for this."
TENSION RISES IN THE CHP The crisis within the party has grown even larger after the scuffle in front of the CHP headquarters since the morning hours, eviction debates, police activity, and mutual statements. While the Kılıçdaroğlu camp demands the implementation of the court decision, Özgür Özel and the current administration evaluate the events as a "political operation" and "attempted takeover by force." All eyes in the party corridors are now turned to the meeting to be held with the Ministry of Interior.
