The location for our National Football Team's camp as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations has been announced.
QUALIFYING VIA PLAY-OFF CAME AT A HIGH COST
Our crescent-and-star team leaving the tournament ticket until the last moment in the play-off stage caused us to fall into a disadvantageous position in off-field conditions. Missing the early reservation opportunity, our national players were virtually condemned to Arizona's scorching desert heat as their rivals secured the cool facilities in California.
FACILITIES MODERN BUT TEMPERATURE DAUNTING
Turkey will continue its tournament preparations at the state-of-the-art Mesa Facilities (Arizona Athletic Grounds) in the US state of Arizona. Although the facility amenities are top-notch, the extreme temperatures ranging between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius in the region during June and July are seen as a major risk factor that will challenge the physical performance of the national footballers. In contrast, other countries that secured their tournament visas earlier will be in a much more favorable climatic position. Host nation USA will camp in the Irvine region with ideal weather conditions (25°C). Paraguay and Australia will prepare for the tournament in the cool climate of San Francisco (21°C).
TURKEY WILL BE THE TEAM THAT FLIES THE MOST
The desert heat is not the only factor that will challenge our National Team. Among our Group D opponents, Turkey is by far the unluckiest team in terms of travel distance and journey fatigue. Our Boys, who will camp in Arizona, will shuttle between Canada and California due to the match schedule, covering over 4,200 kilometers of air travel.
The total flight distances of the other teams in the group are as follows:
- Paraguay: Will travel only 600 km from their base in San Francisco.
- USA: Will fly a total of 1,800 km from Irvine, California.
- Australia: Will cover a distance of 2,100 km from Oakland, San Francisco during the tournament.
