A patient who applied to Konya City Hospital with complaints of abdominal swelling and pain had a mass weighing 12 kilograms 880 grams, originating from the right ovary and filling the entire abdominal cavity, surgically removed.
A mass originating from the right ovary of a patient who applied to Konya City Hospital with complaints of abdominal bloating and pain, weighing 12 kilos and 880 grams and filling the entire abdominal cavity, was removed surgically.
IT HAD FILLED THE ENTIRE ABDOMINAL CAVITY
Dr. Sıtkı Özbilgeç, a specialist in Gynecologic Oncology Surgery at Konya City Hospital, stated that in the examinations of the 48-year-old mother of two, a mass of approximately 30-35 centimeters in size, filling the entire abdominal cavity, was detected.
EXACTLY 12 KILOS 880 GRAMS
Özbilgeç, noting that it was determined during the surgery that the mass originated from the right ovary, said, "We removed a mass weighing approximately 12 kilos and 880 grams. No complications developed during or after the surgery. We quickly sent the mass to the pathology department. Thank God, it was reported as benign. Our patient is also doing well now. We plan to discharge her within two days."
SYMPTOM OF A 10-MONTH PREGNANCY
Özbilgeç, stating that despite the size of the mass, the patient continued her daily life for a long time, explained that the patient did not take it seriously enough.
Özbilgeç, drawing attention to the fact that women should have regular gynecological check-ups, noted the following:
"One should not wait until a mass reaches 12-13 kilograms. This disease could also have been malignant. Our patient had an abdominal size like that of a 38-40 week pregnancy. People who saw her thought she was pregnant. She had a very large mass, and we removed it successfully. We did not predict that the mass would be this heavy, but we had determined from the imaging methods we performed that it would be a very large mass."
