Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen claimed to have hit a Saudi Arabian Typhoon-type fighter jet with a surface-to-air missile. No response has yet come from Saudi Arabia to the Houthis' statement, in which they claimed the aircraft was directly hit and was in danger of crashing. Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition forces announced that a UAV attack targeting the east of the country was intercepted.

Tension continues between the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen and the Saudi Arabia-led coalition forces supporting the Yemeni government recognized by the international community.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed in a statement on his social media account that they targeted a Saudi Arabian Typhoon-type fighter jet flying in the skies over the city of Saada in northern Yemen.

Saree claimed they carried out an attack on the fighter jet with a surface-to-air missile.

"IT TOOK A DIRECT HIT, IT WAS IN DANGER OF CRASHING"

The Houthi military spokesman claimed that the targeted fighter jet took off from an air base in the city of Taif in western Saudi Arabia.

Saree, noting that the attack was carried out late on Wednesday, claimed that the missile directly hit the aircraft and that the fighter jet was in danger of crashing.

While the claims in question have not yet been confirmed by independent sources, no official statement has been made by Saudi Arabian authorities on the matter either.

STATEMENT FROM SAUDI ARABIA ON UAV ATTACK

Meanwhile, the Saudi Arabia-led coalition forces announced that an unmanned aerial vehicle attack targeting the east of the country was thwarted.

Coalition forces spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki announced in a statement on his social media account that the UAV attack targeting eastern Saudi Arabia was thwarted.

MUTUAL ATTACKS CONTINUE IN THE REGION

Mutual attacks between the Houthis in Yemen and the Saudi Arabia-led coalition forces are increasing security concerns in the region. After the Houthis' claim that they hit the fighter jet, attention turned to the statement expected from Saudi Arabian authorities.
