At the hours when master journalist Şükran Soner was laid to rest on her final journey, her family was shaken by the news of a second death. Her sister Türkan Berişe, who was reported to have been undergoing treatment for health problems for some time, passed away after receiving the news of her sister's death. The two consecutive deaths doubled the grief of the Soner family.
During the funeral ceremony of Şükran Soner, a columnist for Cumhuriyet newspaper, member of the Board of Directors of the Cumhuriyet Foundation, and the first female President of the Turkey Journalists' Union, a second death news plunged the family into grief. CEREMONY AT CUMHURIYET BUILDING AND ŞIŞLI MOSQUE
The first memorial ceremony for the veteran journalist Şükran Soner was held at the Istanbul headquarters of Cumhuriyet newspaper, where she had worked for many years. Following this first ceremony, attended by her colleagues, admirers, and relatives, Soner's body was brought to Şişli Mosque. After the funeral prayer performed just after noon, Şükran Soner was laid to rest in Eyüpsultan Cemetery on her final journey.
