In the Melikgazi district of Kayseri, pieces of plaster that broke off from the ceiling fell onto 75-year-old Fatma Özer, who lives with her daughter and son-in-law on the third floor of an 11-story apartment building. The woman, who was taken into surgery, was found to have severe vision loss in her left eye and a broken nose. Her son, Zafer Özer, called on contractors, saying, "Let's build buildings more solidly and be more careful."
In KAYSERİ, Fatma Özer (75), who was injured by pieces of plaster breaking off from the ceiling while she was sitting with her daughter and son-in-law in an apartment, is continuing her treatment at the hospital. Özer's son Zafer Özer (49) said, “She has a broken nose and an injury on her forehead. She is currently receiving treatment. She has experienced severe vision loss in her left eye.” Özer said, “From here, I can also say this to our contractors; please let's be sturdier and more careful when building our buildings.”
The incident occurred on Monday around 20:30 in an 11-story apartment building on Kışla Street in the Köşk Neighborhood of Melikgazi district. Pieces of plaster that broke off from the ceiling for a still unknown reason fell onto Fatma Özer, who was sitting with her daughter and son-in-law on the 3rd floor. Upon the report, police and medical teams were dispatched to the address. Injured Fatma Özer was taken to Erciyes University Medical Faculty Hospital after first aid. It was determined that Özer, whose treatment continues, experienced vision loss and had a broken nose.
TAKEN INTO SURGERY IN THE EARLY MORNING
Fatma Özer's son Zafer Özer said, “On Monday evening, around 20:30-21:00, while my mother, my brother-in-law and my sister were sitting, the ceiling plaster collapsed on them with a loud noise. That is how the incident happened. Ambulance and police teams came. Then my mother was taken to Erciyes University Medical Faculty Hospital. She was taken into surgery around 05:30 towards morning because she experienced vision loss. She has a broken nose and an injury on her forehead. She is currently receiving treatment. She has experienced severe vision loss in her left eye. She is not currently in a condition to speak. Police teams were already here that evening. They took the necessary report. They are waiting for my mother to be able to speak for her statement. The necessary steps will be taken afterwards.”
THE CEILING COLLAPSED ONTO THEM WITH A LOUD NOISE
Saying that the incident was an unforeseeable accident, Zafer Özer said, “It would not occur to a person that such a thing could happen. We were already very surprised when we heard it. We were left in astonishment. The ceiling collapsed on them with a loud noise. I hope such a thing never happens to anyone again. From here, I can also say this to our contractors; please let's be sturdier and more careful when building our buildings. Let people live well in their homes. Such an incident was not something that could be predicted, but it happened to us. I hope it does not happen to anyone else.”
