AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik commented on the allegations that Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kasım Gülpınar, who resigned from the Welfare Party, will join the AK Party, saying, "Kasım Bey is our respected friend with whom we have done politics together and have valuable memories. He has spoken his appreciation in this way today. He said he will consider joining a party. If there is any issue related to us when he makes his decision, we will evaluate it."

KASIM GÜLPINAR FROM THE WELFARE PARTY RESIGNED

Kasım Gülpınar, who was elected as the Mayor of Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality with 79 percent of the votes in the local elections on March 31, resigned from his party with a video message he released the day before. While Gülpınar stated that he will continue his path independently, there were allegations that he will join the AK Party.

Along with these facts, in order to put an end to the situations that occupy our agenda and to focus on better services for Şanlıurfa, we have decided to continue our duty as the Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality 'Independently' from any political party, in accordance with the common opinion of our people. I believe that an independent and unifying political style will be beneficial in ending the political conflicts that have occupied the agenda of Şanlıurfa for a long time and in enabling the discussion of services, investments, and the future of Şanlıurfa instead of political divisions and polarization."
