Writer Funda Demirci, who murdered her ex-husband, appears before the judge: I don't remember.

The trial of writer Funda Demirci, who is accused of stabbing her ex-husband Mustafa Çapar to death on September 28, 2023 in Beşiktaş, has begun. The detained defendant Funda Demirci and her lawyers were present at the hearing held at Istanbul 38th Heavy Penal Court. The Ministry of Family and Social Services lawyer and the family of the deceased Mustafa Çapar also attended the hearing as "plaintiffs".

"I DIDN'T DO IT"

During the hearing, the defendant Demirci, when asked by the presiding judge, remained silent for a few seconds before answering. Demirci then replied, "I didn't do it." After her answer, when the defendant Demirci continued to remain silent, the presiding judge read her previous statement. The presiding judge asked the defendant, "In your previous statement, you said 'I regret taking away someone's right to life,' do you accept that?" The defendant Demirci replied, "I didn't say such a thing."

"THERE WAS A LOT OF VIOLENCE, BUT IT WASN'T ME"

The presiding judge broke the silence again and asked the defendant about her knowledge and memories of the incident. The defendant said, "There was always violence. There was a lot of violence. All kinds. But it wasn't me. I don't remember the knife."

"The defendant is not in a condition to give a statement." At this point, the defense lawyer requested to speak and said, "At the beginning of the trial, after the Prosecution stage, we met with the client in prison and she was like this all the time. A report regarding the defendant's mental health should be obtained from the Forensic Medicine Institute. The defendant is not in a condition to give a statement."

"SHE IS PERFORMING THE INCIDENT LIKE AN ASSASSINATION TEAM AND SAYING 'I DIDN'T DO IT' AGAIN HERE"

The plaintiff Hasan Çapar, who made a statement during the hearing, said, "She is performing the incident like an assassination team and now she is saying 'I didn't do it.' There is no such thing. I want her to receive the harshest punishment."

FORENSIC MEDICINE INSTITUTE WILL PROVIDE A REPORT

In its interim decision, the court requested a report from the Forensic Medicine Institute regarding the defendant Demirci's criminal responsibility and ruled for the continuation of her detention, adjourning the hearing.

FROM THE INDICTMENT

The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that an investigation was initiated upon the notification that the victim Mustafa Çapar was stabbed to death by his ex-wife Funda Demirci. The indictment included the statement of the couple's son M.Ç., who stated that their parents divorced in 2021, their mother occasionally came to their house and sometimes stayed, and on the day of the incident, he heard a noise while his mother was at home, and when he entered the living room, he saw his father lying on the floor covered in blood.

SHE TRIED TO ARRANGE A PLANE TICKET AFTER STABBING HER EX-HUSBAND

The indictment also included the statement of Tayfur V., who worked as a private security guard at the site, stating that when he went to the front of the house on the night of the incident, he saw the suspect Demirci coming out of the building with a large knife in her hand, and when he entered the house, he found the victim with a cut throat covered in blood, and saw the victim's son sitting at the foot of the bed crying, and when the ambulance arrived, he left the scene to another security guard colleague and heard the suspect making a phone call saying, 'arrange a plane ticket for me'.

THERE ARE RECORDINGS AND EMAILS SHOWING HER HATRED TOWARDS HER EX-HUSBAND

The prepared indictment stated that it was determined that the suspect Demirci sent emails and voice recordings to her brother before the murder, expressing her hatred towards her ex-husband, and requested a report from the Forensic Medicine Institute regarding her mental health, but it was stated that she did not show a level of mental illness that would affect her criminal responsibility. The indictment requested that the suspect Funda Demirci be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing of her divorced spouse".
