Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who announced that he would not participate in the preliminary election to be held on March 23, is now focused on the upcoming poll results. If he emerges ahead of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in the election surveys conducted in the following period, Yavaş will officially declare his candidacy for the presidency and enter the race.

The CHP Party Council decided that the party's presidential candidate would be determined by a primary election, while also granting authority to the Central Executive Board regarding the schedule and method. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel announced the primary election date as March 23 during the group meeting in the Parliament on Tuesday.

IMAMOGLU'S ELECTION IS VIEWED WITH CONFIDENCE

The method of candidate determination has been unified as "primary election," and Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who opposed the early determination of the candidate, will not participate in the primary. It is confidently expected that Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu will emerge as the candidate in the primary election planned for next month.

DID YAVAŞ GIVE UP CANDIDACY?

So does his decision not to participate in the primary mean that Mansur Yavaş has given up his candidacy? Yavaş's close circle firmly denies this claim. In fact, it is said that Yavaş will closely monitor the upcoming polls and may officially announce his candidacy for president if he surpasses İmamoğlu in the results.

IMAMOGLU: YAVAS WILL NOT BE A CANDIDATE

On the other hand, Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu stated that Yavaş will not be a candidate in the primary, saying, "We had a very valuable meeting. We are managing every stage with our internal party processes. Since we have spoken with a few journalist friends yesterday and today, I can express the same things here as well. Ultimately, Mr. Mansur has a different perspective. He thinks, 'It's too early today. It's too early for candidacy. Therefore, it's also too early for the primary.' Thus, he expressed that he does not consider being a candidate under these conditions."
