Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated regarding the ceasefire proposal they put forward together with the United States, "The whole world wants peace. However, only Russia does not want to end the war. Instead, it is looking for conditions to prolong the conflict. We must take steps towards peace and put pressure on the only reason the war is still ongoing."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation with Patriarch Bartholomew.
"FIRST STEPS TOWARDS PEACE MUST INCLUDE THE RELEASE OF WAR PRISONERS AND CIVILIANS"
After the meeting, Zelensky stated on his social media account that they discussed the talks between Ukrainian and American teams in Saudi Arabia, saying, "We supported the U.S. proposal for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire in the air, at sea, and on land. The first steps towards a fair and lasting peace must include not only the release of war prisoners and civilians but also the return of deported Ukrainian children."
"RUSSIA DOES NOT WANT TO END THE WAR, INSTEAD, IT IS LOOKING FOR CONDITIONS TO EXTEND IT"
Emphasizing that Ukraine wants peace, Zelensky stated, "Ukraine is not shying away from any effort to achieve this as soon as possible. The whole world wants peace. However, only Russia does not want to end the war; instead, it is looking for conditions to prolong it. We must take steps towards peace and put pressure on the only reason the war is still ongoing."
"THE WORLD SEES THAT RUSSIA IS DELIBERATELY CREATING CONDITIONS THAT ONLY COMPLICATE THE PROCESS"
After his meeting with Vatican Prime Minister Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Zelensky shared that the Vatican received a list of Ukrainians held in prisons and camps in Russia, stating, "We rely on your support for their release. The exchange of prisoners and a 30-day unconditional ceasefire are the first quick steps that could significantly bring us closer to a fair and lasting peace. Ukraine is ready to take these steps because the Ukrainian people want peace more than anyone else. Meanwhile, the world sees that Russia is the only party wanting the war to continue and diplomacy to fail, deliberately creating conditions that only complicate and prolong the process."
