In the Alanya district of Antalya, heavy rainfall that began yesterday afternoon following the yellow-coded warning from the General Directorate of Meteorology negatively affected life in many areas of the district in a short time. Due to the intense rain, vehicles were stranded on the roads, some businesses were flooded, and at one point, a retaining wall collapsed.
Images of the destruction left by the flood after the rain that continued throughout the night in Alanya emerged in the morning hours. Especially at Galip Dere Beach, a large amount of garbage and waste carried from the sea hit the shore due to the heavy rainfall. While teams continued cleaning efforts in the area, efforts were made to evacuate the flooded points throughout the night.
VEHICLES STRANDED IN WATER
During the peak of the rainfall at noon, many vehicles in the town center were swept away by the flood and could not move on the roads. Drivers and citizens were rescued by fire brigade teams from their locations. The rainwater quickly filled shops with low ground levels, putting shopkeepers in a difficult situation. Citizens tried to evacuate the water from their shops with their own means.
RETaining WALL COLLAPSED
Due to the rainfall, a retaining wall collapsed in one area, creating a danger in the vicinity. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. After the heavy rain, some vehicles were left in the water. Citizens had to clean their vehicles themselves in the morning hours after the rain. ASAT and Antalya Metropolitan Municipality fire brigade teams worked until morning to clear blocked drains and evacuate water from flooded streets.
"THE BASEMENTS OF HOTELS ARE FILLED WITH WATER"
Tahsin Kibar, who stated that there has not been such rainfall in Alanya for 15 years, said, "It rained for 1-2 hours in the afternoon. The waters from the mountains came down to the city center. The basements of the hotels are all filled with water. I have been in Alanya for 15 years, and this is the first time I have seen something like this. I have never seen such a thing in previous rains," he said.
"WE ARE WAITING FOR HELP FROM AUTHORITIES"
A citizen whose vehicle was left in the water due to the flood said, "We ended up like this in the flood. There is no infrastructure, the drains are blocked. This vehicle was submerged in water until 10:00 PM. We are currently waiting for help from the authorities. The vehicle is in a water swamp. The world knows this place. This is the current state of Alanya," he expressed.
